I've been working in public education for 7 years. I started out in the inner city of Detroit introducing art to elementary children for the first time in their lives. Shortly after that I moved out west to Salt Lake City. My journey in Utah has giving me experience teaching elementary in a rural community to middle school in the suburbs and now currently teaching visual art classes to high school students in the Midvale community. My classes range from drawing to printmaking. I've partnered with the Midvale community to paint a large scale mural with my students in a at risk neighborhood that has had issues with tagging and vandalism with the local gangs. I've partnered with the Canyons school district education foundation in writing a grant to get students acquainted with visual art communication through electronic media. My current ambitions in education is earning a ESL endorsement. I believe visual art is a gateway to learning and is a primary language that gets lost while learning other languages. Visual communication has always led to understanding in the absence of words. Learning can be achieved through images and in the creation of images.
